1. Taj Mahal – Uttar Pradesh

Commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the remains of his cherished wife, Taj Mahal is located on the right bank of the Yamuna River in a vast Mughal garden that encompasses nearly 17 hectares, in the Agra District in Uttar Pradesh. Construction starting in 1632 AD and completed in 1648 AD, with the mosque, the guest house and the main gateway on the south, the outer courtyard and its cloisters were added subsequently and completed in 1653 AD. The Taj Mahal is considered to be the greatest architectural achievement in the whole range of Indo-Islamic architecture. The relief work in marble and inlay with precious and semi precious stones make it a monument apart. The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”.

2. Nohkalikai Falls – Meghalaya

Nohkalikai Waterfalls is around 5 km from Cherrapunjee and is the fourth highest waterfall in the world. Falling from a height of 1,100 ft, this falls are one of the biggest tourist attractions of Meghalaya. Nohkalikai Falls are fed by the rainwater collected on the summit of comparatively small plateau and decrease in power during the dry season in December – February. Below the falls there has formed a plunge pool with unusual green colored water.
